A church group from a local church from Albany was planning their annual trip with their hearts set on the Big Apple. They were planning a five-day trip, giving them the opportunity to explore each unique borough and what it had to offer.

You can’t visit New York without basking in the glory of Central Park, where our group decided to start their trip. Their bus dropped them off near the park, and they walked together to explore the beautiful paths, the zoo, the many memorials, and the unique mix of locals. Because it can be quite a tricky place to park, they were thankful for their bus to take care of all the transportation hassles while they got straight to exploring.

Just a short walking distance away from Central Park sits the world-renowned Metropolitan Museum of Art, prominently known as “the Met.” Known for being the nation’s largest museum, it holds a wide variety of art from all over the world. The group walked over to the Met together after a lovely morning stroll through Central Park. Because they had a larger group, they reserved a private group tour for themselves before their trip. They heard that the Met’s rooftop featured jaw-dropping sights of Central Park and the New York City skyline. Afterward, they decided to stay on the ground for lunch and coffee at the Met’s Great Hall Balcony Café & Bar.
Times Square

After a busy morning in the Upper East Side, the group headed over to Times Square for an afternoon of classic tourist sightseeing. Times Square is known for its hectic traffic and confusing infrastructure, and the group saved a lot of stress by having their bus drop them off near the destination. They walked around and shopped, participated in pop-up activities, and admired the beauty of the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps.

Afterward, the group walked over to the Empire State Building, where you can catch some of the most beautiful sights of NYC. For the best views of the Manhattan skyline, make sure to stop by the 86th and 102nd floor. On top of that, the Empire State Building has been featured in over 250 movies and TV shows, so tourists can take shots of where their favorite actors once stood!
September 11 Memorial & Museum

Before dinnertime, the group took their bus rental to the September 11 Memorial & Museum in Lower Manhattan to commemorate the September 11, 2001 attacks. The best place to park is at the Battery Parking Garage nearby, but luckily, the group was able to avoid that extra hassle by being dropped off directly in front of the memorial. Their bus waited for them until it was time to head to their next destination.
Dinner at Sylvia’s Restaurant in Harlem

As the group’s day ended, their minibus drove them to Harlem in Upper Manhattan for dinner and exploration of the city. They tried out Sylvia’s Restaurant, a Harlem landmark that serves classic Southern comfort food. The restaurant was founded in 1962 by the Queen of Soul Food herself, Sylvia Woods. After dinner, the group walked around Harlem to explore the diverse streets full of friendly people, jazz clubs, and hip bars before going back to their hotel.

After a wholesome breakfast at their hotel, the group started their 2nd day in New York’s more green borough, the Bronx. Their bus dropped them off at the Bronx Zoo, located in Bronx Park, where they explored 265 lush acres home to more than 600 different species.

Right next door sits the New York Botanical Garden where you can find trees that date back all the way to the Revolutionary War. This 250-acre historic landmark is the perfect place to relax and get fresh air after a hectic day in Manhattan. Before heading to their next destination, the group enjoyed the great outdoors and snapped some pictures together.

Yankees fan or not, you can’t visit the Bronx without experiencing the excitement of America’s favorite pastime. The group wanted to spend the remainder of their time in the Bronx cheering on their favorite team and munching on the ballpark’s concession food. While subway lines run all over the city, the group was thankful to have their bus drop them off and pick them back up to bring them back to their hotel, especially after a few beers.

Flushing Meadow Park-- Corona Park

The group wanted to start their day with a nice walk through the park before jumping into the next few activities.

Formerly known as the Queens Museum of Art, Queens Museum is an art museum and educational center that features a room-sized replica of the five New York City boroughs, originally built for the 1964 New York World’s Fair. Because it’s located in Corona Park itself, the group figured they might as well walk over and explore the museum before lunchtime.

Also located in Corona Park, the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) is a science museum with hands-on experiences for groups of all ages. Because the group contained some children, they decided to stop by to indulge in the family-friendly fun. Popular exhibits include the Design Lab, Search for Life Beyond Earth, and of course, the gift shop. Luckily, the group was able to store all their purchases safely on their bus while the explored the rest of Queens.

Their bus then drops them off at the Museum of Moving Image, located in Astoria, Queens, where the group can explore the art and history of moving images. This unique attraction is not your average museum-- here, you can make your own still motion video, learn how to add sound effects to movies, make flip books, and learn all about the history of the movie industry.

Set in one of the oldest homes in New York, this museum is dedicated to the life and works of Victorian photographer Alice Austen, one of America’s earliest and most prolific female photographers who captured over 8,000 photographs in her lifetime.

As the last hurrah before ending their trip, the group decided to spend their last night cheering on the Staten Island Yankees at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
